Surah Al-Kahf — Verse 6

The Cave · 18:6 · 6/110

فَلَعَلَّكَ بَـٰخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ إِن لَّمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَسَفًا

FalaAAallaka bakhiAAun nafsaka AAalaatharihim in lam yu'minoo bihatha alhadeethiasafa

Translations of this verse 7

Saheeh International

Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muḥammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

But [Prophet] are you going to worry yourself to death over them if they do not believe in this message?

Marmaduke Pickthall

Yet it may be, if they believe not in this statement, that thou (Muhammad) wilt torment thy soul with grief over their footsteps.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Thou wouldst only, perchance, fret thyself to death, following after them, in grief, if they believe not in this Message.

Mufti Taqi Usmani

So, (O Prophet) perhaps you are going to kill yourself after them, out of grief, if they do not believe in this discourse.

Al-Hilali & Khan

Perhaps, you, would kill yourself (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in grief, over their footsteps (for their turning away from you), because they believe not in this narration (the Qur’ân).

Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)

(O Muhammad), if they do not believe in this Message, you will perhaps torment yourself to death with grief, sorrowing over them.
