Surah Al-Baqarah — Verse 199

ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا۟ مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Thumma afeedoo min haythu afadaannasu wastaghfiroo Allaha inna Allahaghafoorun raheem

Saheeh International
Then depart from the place from where [all] the people depart and ask forgiveness of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

Surge down where the rest of the people do, and ask forgiveness of God: He is most forgiving and merciful.
Marmaduke Pickthall
Then hasten onward from the place whence the multitude hasteneth onward, and ask forgiveness of Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Then pass on at a quick pace from the place whence it is usual for the multitude so to do, and ask for Allah's forgiveness. For Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Then flow down from where the people flow, and seek forgiveness from Allah. Certainly Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.

قال تعالى: {ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ (199)} [البقرة: 199].
32 - عَنْ هِشَامِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: كَانَت الْعَرَبُ تَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ عُرَاةً إِلَّا الْحُمْسَ، وَالْحُمْسُ قُرَيْشٌ وَمَا وَلَدَتْ، كَانُوا يَطُوفُونَ عُرَاةً إِلَّا أَنْ تُعْطِيَهُمْ الْحُمْسَ ثِيَاباً، فَيُعْطِي الرِّجَالُ الرِّجَالَ وَالنِّسَاءُ النِّسَاءَ، وَكَانَتْ الْحُمْسُ لَا يَخْرُجُونَ مِن الْمُزْدَلِفَةِ، وَكَانَ النَّاسُ كُلُّهُمْ يَبْلُغُونَ عَرَفَات.
قَالَ هِشَامٌ: فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ - رضي الله عنها - قَالَتْ: الْحُمْسُ هُمُ الَّذِينَ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِيهِمْ: {ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ}، قالَتْ: كَانَ النَّاسُ يُفِيضُونَ مِنْ عَرَفَاتٍ، وَكَانَ الْحُمْسُ يُفِيضُونَ مِنْ الْمُزْدَلِفَةِ، يَقُولُونَ: لَا نُفِيضُ إِلا مِنْ الْحَرَمِ. فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ أَفِيضُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ، رَجَعُوا إِلَى عَرَفَاتٍ ¬أخرجه البخاري برقم: 1665، 4520، ومسلم برقم: 1219، وأبو داود برقم: 1910، والنسائي برقم: 3012، والترمذي برقم: 884، وابن حبان برقم: 3856، والبيهقي: 5/ 113، والطيالسي برقم: 1471، والواحدي في أسباب النزول: ص 64، وزاد السيوطي عزوه في الدر: 1/ 226 لابن المنذر، وابن أبي حاتم، وأبي نعيم في الدلائل.¥.
