Surah Ya-Sin — Verse 78
Ya Sin · 36:78 · 78/83
وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَنَسِىَ خَلْقَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ مَن يُحْىِ ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ وَهِىَ رَمِيمٌ
Wadaraba lana mathalanwanasiya khalqahu qala man yuhyee alAAithamawahiya rameem
Translations of this verse 7
Saheeh International
And he presents for Us an example and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?"
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
producing arguments against Us, forgetting his own creation. He says, ‘Who can give life back to bones after they have decayed?’
Marmaduke Pickthall
And he hath coined for Us a similitude, and hath forgotten the fact of his creation, saying: Who will revive these bones when they have rotted away?
Abdullah Yusuf Ali
And he makes comparisons for Us, and forgets his own (origin and) Creation: He says, "Who can give life to (dry) bones and decomposed ones (at that)?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani
He has set up an argument about Us and forgot his creation. He said, “Who will give life to the bones when they are decayed?”
Al-Hilali & Khan
And he puts forth for Us a parable, and forgets his own creation. He says: "Who will give life to these bones after they are rotten and have become dust?"
Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)
He strikes for Us a similitude and forgot his own creation. He says: “Who will quicken the bones when they have decayed?”

قال تعالى: {وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَنَسِيَ خَلْقَهُ قَالَ مَنْ يُحْيِ الْعِظَامَ وَهِيَ رَمِيمٌ (78)} [يس: 78].
267 - عن أبي مالك -رضي الله عنه- قال: أن أُبَيَّ بن خلف الجمحي جاء إلى رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- بعظم حائل، ففته بين يديه، وقال: يا محمد، يبعث الله هذا بعد ما أرم؟ فقال: "نعم، يبعث الله تعالى هذا، ويميتك ثم يحييك، ثم يدخلك نار جهنم ". فنزلت هذه الآية ¬أخرجه الواحدي في الأسباب: ص 379 برقم: 721، وهو مرسل صحيح الإسناد، وزاد عزوه في الدر: 5/ 269 لسعيد بن منصور وابن المنذر والبيهقي في البعث، وله شاهد من مرسل قتادة: وأخرجه ابن جرير: 23/ 30 وإسناده صحيح، وله شاهد من حديث ابن عباس -رضي الله عنهما-، وأخرجه الحاكم: 2/ 429 وابن جرير: 23/ 31، والإسماعيلي في معجمه برقم: 359، وصححه الحاكم ووافقه الذهبي، والحديث صحيح كما قالا، وزاد عزوه في الدر: 5/ 269 لابن المنذر وابن أبي حاتم، وابن مردويه، والبيهقي في البعث، والضياء في المختارة. وعلى كل تقدير سواء كانت هذه الآيات قد نزلت في أبي بن خلف أو العاص بن وائل أو فيهما فهي عامة في كل من أنكر البعث.¥.
