Surah An-Nisa — Verse 65

فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىٰ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا۟ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا
Fala warabbika la yu'minoona hattayuhakkimooka feema shajara baynahum thumma layajidoo fee anfusihim harajan mimma qadaytawayusallimoo tasleema
Translations of this verse 7
Saheeh International
But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muḥammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
By your Lord, they will not be true believers until they let you decide between them in all matters of dispute, and find no resistance in their souls to your decisions, accepting them totally-
Marmaduke Pickthall
But nay, by thy Lord, they will not believe (in truth) until they make thee judge of what is in dispute between them and find within themselves no dislike of that which thou decidest, and submit with full submission.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali
But no, by the Lord, they can have no (real) Faith, until they make thee judge in all disputes between them, and find in their souls no resistance against Thy decisions, but accept them with the fullest conviction.
Mufti Taqi Usmani
So, never by your Lord! Never shall they become believers, unless they make you the judge in the disputes that arise between them, then find no discomfort in their hearts against what you have decided, and surrender to it in total submission.
Al-Hilali & Khan
But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission.
Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)
But no, by your Lord, they cannot become true be-lievers until they seek your arbitration in all matters on which they disagree among themselves, and then find not the least vexation in their hearts over what you have decided, and accept it in willing submission.

قال تعالى: {فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّى يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا (65)} [انساء: 65].
115 - عن عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ رَحمه الله: أَنَّ الزُّبَيْرَ - رضي الله عنه - كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ: أَنَّهُ خَاصَمَ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ قَدْ شَهِدَ بَدْراً، إِلَى رَسُولِ اللّه - صلى الله عليه وسلم - في شِرَاجِ مِنْ الْحَرَّةِ، كَانَا يَسْقِيَانِ بِهِ كِلَاهُمَا، فَقَالَ رَسُول اللّه - صلى الله عليه وسلم - للْزُّبَيْرِ: "اسْقِ يَا زُبَيرُ، ثُمَّ أَرْسِلْ إِلَى جَارِكَ، فَغَضِبَ الْأَنْصَاريُّ، فَقَال: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أنْ كَانَ ابْنَ عَمَّتِكَ؟ فَتَلَوَّنَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -، ثُمَّ قَالَ: "اسْقِ، ثُمَّ احْبِسْ حَتَّى يَبلُغَ الْجَدْرَ". فَاسْتَوْعَى رَسُولُ اللهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم - حِينَئِذٍ حَقَّهُ لِلْزُّبَيْرِ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم - قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ أَشَارَ عَلَى الزُّبَيْرِ بِرَأْي سَعَةٍ لَهُ وَلِلْأَنْصَارِيِّ، فَلَمَّا أَحْفَظَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ رَسُولَ اللّه - صلى الله عليه وسلم - اسْتَوْعَى لِلْزُّبَيْرِ حَقَّهُ فِي صَرِيحِ الْحُكْمِ. قَالَ عُرْوَةُ: قَالَ الزُّبَيْرُ: وَاللّهِ مَا أَحْسِبُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ نَزَلَتْ إِلا فِي ذَلِكَ، {فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّى يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ} الْآيَةَ. واللفظ للبخاري ¬أخرحه البخاري برقم: 2708، ومسلم برقم: 2357.¥.
