Surah Al-Mujadila — Verse 12
The Pleading Woman · 58:12 · 12/22
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا نَـٰجَيْتُمُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَقَدِّمُوا۟ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ نَجْوَىٰكُمْ صَدَقَةً ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ وَأَطْهَرُ ۚ فَإِن لَّمْ تَجِدُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha najaytumu arrasoola faqaddimoo baynayaday najwakum sadaqatan thalika khayrunlakum waatharu fa-in lam tajidoo fa-inna Allahaghafoorun raheem

Saheeh International
O you who have believed, when you [wish to] privately consult the Messenger, present before your consultation a charity. That is better for you and purer. But if you find not [the means] - then indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
You who believe, when you come to speak privately with the Messenger, offer something in charity before your conversation: that is better for you and purer. If you do not have the means, God is most forgiving and merciful.
Marmaduke Pickthall
O ye who believe! When ye hold conference with the messenger, offer an alms before your conference. That is better and purer for you. But if ye cannot find (the wherewithal) then lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali
O ye who believe! When ye consult the Messenger in private, spend something in charity before your private consultation. That will be best for you, and most conducive to purity (of conduct). But if ye find not (the wherewithal), Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Mufti Taqi Usmani
O you who believe, when you consult the Messenger in private, then offer something in charity before your consultation. That is better for you and purer. But if you find nothing (to offer), then Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.

O you who believe! When you (want to) consult the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in private, spend something in charity before your private consultation. That will be better and purer for you. But if you find not (the means for it), then verily, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)
Believers, when you come to the Messenger for private consultation, offer some charity before your consultation with him. That is better for you and more conducive to purity. But if you find nothing to offer in charity, then know that Allah is Most Merciful, Most Compassionate.

قال تعالى: {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا نَاجَيْتُمُ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوَاكُمْ صَدَقَةً ذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ وَأَطْهَرُ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ (12)} [المجادلة: 12].
292 - عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أبِي طَالِبٍ -رضي الله عنهما-: قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا نَاجَيْتُمُ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوَاكُمْ صَدَقَةً} قَالَ لِي النَّبِىُّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -: "مَا تَرَى دِينَارًا"، قُلْتُ: لَا يُطِيقُونَهُ، قَالَ: "فَنِصْفُ دِينَارِ"، قُلْتُ: لَا يُطِيقُونَهُ، قَالَ: "فَكَمْ" قُلْتُ: شَعِيرَةٌ، قَالَ: "إِنَّكَ لَزَهِيدٌ" قَالَ: فَنَزَلَتْ: {أَأَشْفَقْتُمْ أَنْ تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوَاكُمْ صَدَقَاتٍ} الْآيَةَ قَالَ: فَبِي خَفَّفَ اللهُ عَنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ. واللفظ للترمذي ¬أخرجه الترمذي برقم: 3297، وابن جرير: 28/ 21، وأبو يعلى برقم: 400، والواحدي في الأسباب: ص 432 برقم: 797، وقال الترمذي: حديث حسن غريب، والحديث حسن، وزاد عزوه في الدر: 6/ 184 لسعيد بن منصور وإسحاق بن راهويه وابن أبي شيبة وعبد بن حميد وابن أبي حاتم وابن مردويه، والحديث حسن. وله شاهد من حديث ابن عباس -رضي الله عنهما-، أخرجه ابن جرير: 28/ 20 - 21، وزاد عزوه في الدر: 6/ 185 لابن المنذر وابن أبي حاتم وابن مردويه، والحديث صحيح لشاهده السابق؛ وله شاهد من مرسل قتادة بإسناد صحيح، وأخرجه ابن جرير: 28/ 20.¥.
