Surah An-Nisa — Verse 123

لَّيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَآ أَمَانِىِّ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗ مَن يَعْمَلْ سُوٓءًا يُجْزَ بِهِۦ وَلَا يَجِدْ لَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا
Laysa bi-amaniyyikum wala amaniyyiahli alkitabi man yaAAmal soo-an yujza bihi walayajid lahu min dooni Allahi waliyyan wala naseera
Translations of this verse 7
Saheeh International
It [i.e., Paradise] is not [obtained] by your wishful thinking nor by that of the People of the Scripture. Whoever does a wrong will be recompensed for it, and he will not find besides Allāh a protector or a helper.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
It will not be according to your hopes or those of the People of the Book: anyone who does wrong will be requited for it and will find no one to protect or help him against God;
Marmaduke Pickthall
It will not be in accordance with your desires, nor the desires of the People of the Scripture. He who doeth wrong will have the recompense thereof, and will not find against Allah any protecting friend or helper.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Not your desires, nor those of the People of the Book (can prevail): whoever works evil, will be requited accordingly. Nor will he find, besides Allah, any protector or helper.
Mufti Taqi Usmani
This is not (a matter of) your fancies or the fancies of the People of the Book. Whoever does evil shall be requited for it, and he shall find neither a friend for himself, besides Allah, nor a helper.
Al-Hilali & Khan
It will not be in accordance with your desires (Muslims), nor those of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), whosoever works evil, will have the recompense thereof, and he will not find any protector or helper besides Allâh.
Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)
It is neither your fancies nor the fancies of the People of the Book which matter. Whoever does evil shall reap its consequence and will find none to be his protector and helper against Allah.

قال تعالى: {لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ وَلَا يَجِدْ لَهُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا (123)} [النساء: 123].
141 - عن مسروق في قوله: {لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ} قال: احتج المسلمون وأهل الكتاب، فقال المسلمون: نحن أهدى منكم، وقال أهل الكتاب: نحن أهدى منكم فأنزل الله: {لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ} قال: ففلج عليهم المسلمون بهذه الآية، {وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ} إلى آخر الاَيتين ¬أخرجه ابن جرير في التفسير: 5/ 288، وبرقم: 10492، وزاد الشوكاني عزوه في فتح القدير: 1/ 822 لسعيد بن منصور وابن المنذر وإسناده صحيح مع إرساله، وقد جاء عنه من وجه آخر عند ابن جرير: 5/ 288، وبرقم: 10492، وزاد الشوكاني عزوه في الفتح 1/ 822: لابن المنذر وابن أبي حاتم، وإسناده صحيح، وله شواهد من الأثرين اللاحقين.¥.
142 - وجاء عن قتادة شبيهاً به ¬أخرجه ابن جرير: 5/ 288، وبرقم: 10493، وإسناده صحيح إلى قتادة ويشهد له ما قبله وما بعده.¥.
143 - وجاء عن أبى صالح شبيهاً به ¬أخرجه ابن جرير: 5/ 289 وبرقم: 10497، والواحدي في أسباب النزول: ص 182، وإسناده صحيح، ويشهد له ما قبله، فهذه المراسيل عن التابعين تثبت أن لسبب النزول أصلاً يعتمد عليه.¥.
