Surah Ali 'Imran — Verse 77

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَا خَلَـٰقَ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَا يَنظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Inna allatheena yashtaroona biAAahdiAllahi waaymanihim thamanan qaleelan ola-ikala khalaqa lahum fee al-akhirati walayukallimuhumu Allahu wala yanthuruilayhim yawma alqiyamati wala yuzakkeehim walahumAAathabun aleem

Saheeh International
Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allāh and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allāh will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment.

but those who sell out God’s covenant and their own oaths for a small price will have no share in the life to come. God will neither speak to them nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection- He will not cleanse them [of their sins]- agonizing torment awaits them.

Lo! those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's covenant and their oaths, they have no portion in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them nor look upon them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He make them grow. Theirs will be a painful doom.

As for those who sell the faith they owe to Allah and their own plighted word for a small price, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter: Nor will Allah (Deign to) speak to them or look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He cleans them (of sin): They shall have a grievous penalty.

Surely, those who take a small price by (breaking) the covenant of Allah and their oaths, for them there is no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will neither speak to them, nor will He look towards them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He purify them. For them there is a painful punishment.

Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allâh’s Covenant and their oaths, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter (Paradise). Neither will Allâh speak to them, nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful torment.
Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)
There shall be no share in the Life to Come for those who sell away the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a trivial gain. On the Day of Resurrection Allah will neither address them, look at them, nor will He purify them. A painful chastisement lies ahead of them.

قال تعالى: {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا أُولَئِكَ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَلَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ (77)} [آل عمران: 77].
74 - عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلِ رَحمه الله قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللّهِ - رضي الله عنه -: "مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينِ يَسْتَحِقُّ بِهَا مَالاً، وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لَقِيَ اللّهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْه غَضْبَانُ"، فَأَنْزَلَ اللّهُ تَصْدِيقَ ذَلِكَ {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا} فَقَرَأَ إلى {عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ}، ثُمَّ إِنَّ الْأَشْعَثَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ - رضي الله عنه - خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا فَقَال: مَا يُحَدِّثُكُمْ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ؟ قَالَ: فَحَدَّثْنَاهُ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ: صَدَقَ، لَفِيَّ وَاللهِ، أُنْزِلَتْ، كَانَتْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ خُصُومَةٌ فِي بِئْرٍ فَاخْتَصَمْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم -، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ: "شَاِهدَاكَ أَوْ يَمِينُهُ ". قُلْتُ: إِنَّهُ إِذًا يَحْلِفُ وَلَا يُبَالِي، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -: "مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ يَسْتَحِقُّ بِهَا مَالاً، وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لَقِيَ الله وَهُوَ عَلَيهِ غَضبَانُ"، فَأَنْزَلَ اللّهُ تَصْدِيقَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ اقْتَرَأَ هَذه الْآيَةَ {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا} إِلَى {وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ} ¬أخرجه البخاري برقم: 2516، ومسلم برقم: 138، والترمذي برقم: 2996، وابن ماجه برقم: 2323 بدون الآية، والحميدي برقم: 95، والطيالسى برقم: 262، 1050، 1051، والنسائي في الكبرى برقم: 5991، 5992، 11062، وأحمد: 1/ 377، 379، 416، 426، والطبراني في الكبير: 10913، والبيهقي: 10/ 178، والواحدي: 110، وابن حبان برقم: 5084، وابن الجارود برقم: 926. ويرى شيخنا العلامة فضل عباس حفظه الله أن هذا الحديث يصلح تفسيراً للآية وليس سبباً للنزول كما في إتقان البرهان: 1/ 292.¥.
75 - وهناك سبب آخر للنزول: فقد جاء عن عبد الله بن أبي أوفى رضي اللّه تعالى عنه: أن رجلاً أقام سلعة وهو في السوق، فحلف باللّه لقد أعطي بها ما لم يعط ليوقع فيها رجلاً من المسلمين، فنزلت {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا} ¬أخرجه البخاري برقم: 2088، والحاكم: 2/ 10 برقم: 2151، والبيهقي: 5/ 330، والواحدي في أسباب النزول: ص 111 - 112، وزاد السيوطي عزوه في الدر: 2/ 44 لعبد بن حميد وابن المنذر. ولا منافاة بين السببين، ويحمل على أن النزول كان بالسببين جميعاً، ولفظ الآية أعم من ذلك.¥.
