Surah Al-Munafiqun — Verse 7
The Hypocrites · 63:7 · 7/11
هُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنفِقُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَنْ عِندَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ حَتَّىٰ يَنفَضُّوا۟ ۗ وَلِلَّهِ خَزَآئِنُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ
Humu allatheena yaqooloona latunfiqoo AAala man AAinda rasooli Allahi hattayanfaddoo walillahi khaza-inu assamawatiwal-ardi walakinna almunafiqeena layafqahoon
Translations of this verse 7
Saheeh International
They are the ones who say, "Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allāh until they disband." And to Allāh belong the depositories of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
They are the ones who say, ‘Give nothing to those who follow God’s Messenger, until they abandon him’, but to God belong the treasures of the heavens and earth, though the hypocrites do not understand this.
Marmaduke Pickthall
They it is who say: Spend not on behalf of those (who dwell) with Allah's messenger that they may disperse (and go away from you); when Allah's are the treasures of the heavens and the earth; but the hypocrites comprehend not.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali
They are the ones who say, "Spend nothing on those who are with Allah's Messenger, to the end that they may disperse (and quit Medina)." But to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth; but the Hypocrites understand not.

They are the ones who say: "Spend not on those who are with Allâh’s Messenger, until they desert him." And to Allâh belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites comprehend not.
Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)
It is they who say: “Give nothing to those who are with the Messenger of Allah so that they may disperse.” (They say so although) the treasures of the heavens and the earth belong to Allah. But the hypocrites do not understand.

قال تعالى: {هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يَنْفَضُّوا وَلِلَّهِ خَزَائِنُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ (7) يَقُولُونَ لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ (8)} [المنافقون: 7 - 8].
303 - عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ - رضي الله عنه - قَالَ: لَمَّا قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَىٍّ: {لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ}، وَقَالَ أَيْضًا: {لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ} أَخْبَرْتُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم - فَلَامَنِي الْأَنْصَارُ، وَحَلَفَ عَبَدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَىٍّ مَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى الْمَنْزِلِ فَنِمْتُ، فَدَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم - فَأتَيْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: "إِنَّ الله قَدْ صَدَّقَكَ" وَنَزَلَ: {هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنْفِقُوا} الْآيَةَ. واللفظ للبخاري.
وفي لفظ لأحمد: عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم - فِي غَزْوَةٍ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ: لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ. قَالَ: فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم - فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، قَالَ: فَحَلَفَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبيٍّ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ شَيْءٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، قَالَ: فَلَامَنِي قَوْمِي، وَقَالُوا: مَا أَرَدْتَ إِلَى هَذَا؟!، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَنِمْتُ كئِيبًا أَوْ حَزِينًا، قَالَ: فَأَرْسَلَ إِليَّ نَبِىُّ اللهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -، أَوْ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ اللهَ - عز وجل - قَدْ أَنْزَلَ عُذْرَكَ وَصَدَّقَكَ، قَالَ: فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: {هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يَنْفَضُّوا} حَتَّى بَلَغَ {لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ} ¬أخرجه البخاري برقم: 4902، والترمذي برقم: 3314، والنسائي في الكبرى برقم: 11597، والتفسير برقم: 617، وابن جرير: 28/ 109، وأحمد: 4/ 268.¥.
