Surah Al-Baqarah — Verse 267

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَـٰتِ مَا كَسَبْتُمْ وَمِمَّآ أَخْرَجْنَا لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا۟ ٱلْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنفِقُونَ وَلَسْتُم بِـَٔاخِذِيهِ إِلَّآ أَن تُغْمِضُوا۟ فِيهِ ۚ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ حَمِيدٌ
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooanfiqoo min tayyibati ma kasabtum wamimmaakhrajna lakum mina al-ardi wala tayammamooalkhabeetha minhu tunfiqoona walastum bi-akhitheehiilla an tughmidoo feehi waAAlamoo anna Allahaghaniyyun hameed
Translations of this verse 7
Saheeh International
O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.

You who believe, give charitably from the good things you have acquired and that We have produced for you from the earth. Do not give away the bad things that you yourself would only accept with your eyes closed: remember that God is self-sufficient, worthy of all praise.

O ye who believe! Spend of the good things which ye have earned, and of that which We bring forth from the earth for you, and seek not the bad (with intent) to spend thereof (in charity) when ye would not take it for yourselves save with disdain; and know that Allah is Absolute, Owner of Praise.

O ye who believe! Give of the good things which ye have (honourably) earned, and of the fruits of the earth which We have produced for you, and do not even aim at getting anything which is bad, in order that out of it ye may give away something, when ye yourselves would not receive it except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of all wants, and worthy of all praise.

O you who believe, spend of the good things you have earned, and of what We have brought forth for you from the earth, and do not opt for a bad thing, spending only from it, while you are not going to accept it (if such a thing is offered to you), unless you close your eyes to it, and know well that Allah is All-Independent, Ever-Praised.

O you who believe! Spend of the good things which you have (legally) earned, and of that which We have produced from the earth for you, and do not aim at that which is bad to spend from it, (though) you would not accept it save if you close your eyes and tolerate therein. And know that Allâh is Rich (Free of all needs), and Worthy of all praise.
Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)
Believers! Spend (in the Way of Allah) out of the good things you have earned and out of what We have produced for you from the earth, and choose not for your spending the bad things such as you yourselves would not accept or accept only by overlooking its defects. Know well that Allah is All-Munificent, Most Praiseworthy.

قال تعالى: {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْفِقُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا كَسَبْتُمْ وَمِمَّا أَخْرَجْنَا لَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ وَلَسْتُمْ بِآخِذِيهِ إِلَّا أَنْ تُغْمِضُوا فِيهِ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ حَمِيدٌ} [البقرة: 267].
58 - عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ - رضي الله عنه - {وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ} قَالَ: نَزَلَتْ فِينَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْضَارِ، كُنَا أَصْحَابَ نَخْلٍ، فَكَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَأتِي مِنْ نَخْلِهِ عَلَى قَدْرِ كَثْرَتِهِ وَقِلَّتِهِ، وَكَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَأُتِي بالْقِنْوِ وَالقِنْوَيْنِ فَيُعَفقُهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، وَكَانَ أَهْلُ القُحفَة لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ، فَكَانَ أَحَدُهُمْ إِذَا جَاعَ اتَى الْقِنْوَ فَضَرَبَهُ بِعَصَاهُ، فَيَسْقُطُ مِنْ الْبُسْرِ وَالتَمْير فَيَأُكُلُ، وَكَانَ نَاسٌ مِمَّنْ لاَ يَرْغَبُ فِي الْخَيْرِ يَأُتي الرَّجُلُ بِالْقِنْوِ فِيهِ الشِّيصُ وَالْحَشَفُ، وَبِالْقِنْوِ قَدْ انْكَسَرَ، فَيُعَلِّقُهُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللّهُ تَبَارَكَ وتَعَالَى {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْفِقُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا كَسَبْتُمْ وَمِمَّا أَخْرَجْنَا لَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ وَلَسْتُمْ بِآخِذِيهِ إِلَّا أَنْ تُغْمِضُوا فِيهِ}، قَالَ: "لَوْ أَن أَحَدَكُمْ أُهْدِيَ إِلَيهِ مِثلُ مَا أَعْطَاهُ لَمْ يَأخُذهُ الّاَ عَلَى إِغْمَاضِ أَؤ حَيَاءِ" قَالَ: فَكُنَّا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ يَأُتِي أَحَدُنَا بِصَالِح مَا عِنْدَهُ ¬أخرجه الترمذي برقم: 2987، وابن ماجه برقم: 1822، والطبراني برقم: 6139، والحاكم: 2/ 285، والبيهقي: 3/ 55، وزاد الشوكاني عزوه في فتح القدير: 1/ 291 لابن أبي شيبة وعبد بن حميد وابن المنذر وابن أبي حاتم وابن مردويه وقال الترمذي: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ صَحيحٌ، وصححه الحاكم ووافقه الذهبي والبوصيري في الزوائد، وأحمد شاكر، والشيخ الألباني والحديث صحيح كما قالوا.¥.
59 - عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: أَنَّ النَّبيَّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم - نَهَى عَنْ لَوْنَيْنِ مِنَ التَمْر الجُعْرُورِ وَلَوْنَ الحُبَيْقِ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ نَاسٌ يَتَيَمَّمُونَ شَرَّ ثِمَارِهِمْ فَيُخْرِجُونَهَا في الصَّدَقَةِ، فَنُهُوا عَنْ لَوْنَينِ مِنَ التَّمَرِ، فَنَزَلَتْ: {وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ}. واللفظ للحاكم ¬أخرجه أبو داود برقم: 1607، ولم يذكر سبب النزول، والنسائي: 5/ 43 برقم: 2492، والحاكم: 2/ 284، والدارقطني: 2/ 130، والطبراني في الكبير برقم: 5567، وزاد الشوكاني عزوه في فتح القدير: 1/ 291 للبيهقي وعبد بن حميد وابن المنذر وابن أبي حاتم، وقال الحاكم: هذا حديث صحيح على شرط البخاري ولم يخرجاه ووافقه الذهبي وهو كما قالا. وقد صححه الشيخ الألباني، وله شواهد من حديث جابر وغيره.¥.
60 - عن جابر بن عبد الله -رضي الله عنهما- قال: أمر النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - بزكاة الفطر بصاع من تمر، فجاء رجل بتمر رديء، فنزل القرآن: {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْفِقُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا كَسَبْتُمْ وَمِمَّا أَخْرَجْنَا لَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ} ¬أخرجه الحاكم: 2/ 283 وصححه ووافقه الذهبي وهو كما قالا. وله شواهد من حديث سهل بن حنيف والبراء.¥.
61 - عن عبيدة السلماني رَحِمه الله قال: سألت علياً - رضي الله عنه - عن قول اللّه: {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْفِقُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا كَسَبْتُمْ وَمِمَّا أَخْرَجْنَا لَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ}، قال: فقال علي - رضي الله عنه -: نزلت هذه الآية في الزكاة المفروضة، كان الرجل يعمد إلى التمر فيصرمه، فيعزل الجيد ناحية، فإذا جاء صاحب الصدقة، أعطاه من الرديء، فقال عز وجلّ {وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ} ¬أخرجه الطبري: 3/ 83، برقم: 6124، وزاد السيوطي عزوه في الدر: لعبد بن حميد وابن المنذر وابن أبي حاتم وابن مردويه، والحديث حسن ..¥.
