Surah Al-An'am — Verse 121

وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ ٱسْمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِسْقٌ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ لَيُوحُونَ إِلَىٰٓ أَوْلِيَآئِهِمْ لِيُجَـٰدِلُوكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ أَطَعْتُمُوهُمْ إِنَّكُمْ لَمُشْرِكُونَ
Wala ta'kuloo mimma lam yuthkariismu Allahi AAalayhi wa-innahu lafisqun wa-inna ashshayateenalayoohoona ila awliya-ihim liyujadilookumwa-in ataAAtumoohum innakum lamushrikoon
Translations of this verse 7
Saheeh International
And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allāh has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you. And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Him].

and do not eat anything over which God’s name has not been pronounced, for that is breaking the law. The evil ones incite their followers to argue with you: if you listen to them, you too will become idolaters.

Eat not of (meats) on which Allah's name hath not been pronounced: That would be impiety. But the evil ones ever inspire their friends to contend with you if ye were to obey them, ye would indeed be Pagans.
Mufti Taqi Usmani
Do not eat that (meat) over which the name of Allah has not been pronounced. This is surely a sin. The satans inspire their friends to dispute with you. If you were to obey them, you would be Mushriks.
Al-Hilali & Khan
Eat not (O believers) of that (meat) on which Allâh’s Name has not been pronounced (at the time of the slaughtering of the animal), for sure it is Fisq (a sin and disobedience of Allâh). And certainly, the Shayâtîn (devils) do inspire their friends (from mankind) to dispute with you, and if you obey them [by making Al-Maitah (a dead animal) legal by eating it], then you would indeed be Mushrikûn (polytheists); [because they (devils and their friends) made lawful to you to eat that which Allâh has made unlawful to eat and you obeyed them by considering it lawful to eat, and by doing so you worshipped them; and to worship others besides Allâh is polytheism].
Abul A'la Maududi (Tafhim)
Do not eat of (the animal) over which the name of Allah has not been pronounced (at the time of its slaughtering), for that is a transgression. And behold, the evil ones do inspire doubts and objections into the hearts of their friends so that they dispute with you; but if you obey them, you will surely yourselves turn into those who associate others with Allah in His divinity.

قال تعالى: {وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُ لَفِسْقٌ وَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ لَيُوحُونَ إِلَى أَوْلِيَائِهِمْ لِيُجَادِلُوكُمْ وَإِنْ أَطَعْتُمُوهُمْ إِنَّكُمْ لَمُشْرِكُونَ (121)} [الأنعام: 121].
176 - عن ابن عباس -رضي الله عنهما- قال: جادل المشركون المسلمين، فقالوا: ما بال ما قتل الله لا تأكلونه، وما قتلتم أنتم أكلتموه، وأنتم تتبعون أمر الله، فأنزل الله: {وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُ لَفِسْقٌ} إلى آخر الآية ¬أخرجه النَّسَائِيّ: 7/ 237 برقم: 4437، والحاكم: 4/ 234، والنحاس في ناسخه: ص 178، والطبري في التفسير: 8/ 17، من طريق هارون بن عنترة عن أبيه عن ابن عباس وإسناده حسن. وقد جاء من طريق آخر عن ابن عباس أخرجه أبو داود برقم: 2818، وابن ماجه برقم: 3173، والحاكم: 4/ 113، 132، وصححه ووافقه الذهبي، والبيهقي في السنن: 9/ 241 من طريق سماك عن عكرمة عن ابن عباس، وقَالَ الترمذي: هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ، وصححه ابن كثير في التفسير، ورجاله ثقات، رجال الصحيح، وفي رواية سماك عن عكرمة اضطراب، وقد توبع من طريق عطاء بن السائب عن سعيد بن جبير عن ابن عباس، وأخرجه أبو داود برقم: 2819، الترمذي برقم: 3069، والطبراني في الكبير برقم: 12295، والبيهقي في السنن: 9/ 240، وصححه الألباني في صحيح الترمذي برقم: 2454 وهو صحيح لمتابعاته. وعن علي بن أبي طلحة عن ابن عباس وأخرجه ابن جرير: 8/ 17 والحديث صحيح لشواهده.¥.
